Oriel Canfas is pleased to be hosting this exhibition of printmaking drawn from two of Wales’ major centers for printmaking, Swansea Print Workshop and Cardiff Print Workshop. The exhibition celebrates the close ties between the two cities, demonstrating a shared passion for printmaking as an important and significant art form in today’s eclectic art world. Showcased are some of the best works to come out of the two workshops from some of Wales’ leading exponents of the art form. Many of the works will be on sale and it is a great opportunity for people to purchase original hand-made prints at affordable prices.

Today the students were introduced to water-wash backgrounds. They painted and flicked natural colours onto paper before press-printing their leaves.

I decided to start the new term with a brand new theme based on nature. In this introductory workshop the pupils took rubbings of leaves using colouring pencils and crayons. After seeing the patterns they had created from the rubbings, they then press-printed the leaves using colourful water-based printing inks.
